The essentials
  • This equals one child killed every day despite a promise to stop hostilities.
  • Families now live in unsafe conditions amid rubble and waste in a third of the Strip.

Three hundred days after a ceasefire was announced in Gaza on 25 October 2025, at least 300 children have been reported killed. That translates to roughly one child per day, despite the agreement calling for a pause in military activity and the full entry of humanitarian aid.

Edouard Beigbeder, UNICEF’s Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa, called the situation a failure for children. 'A ceasefire that leaves an average of one child dead every day is failing children,' he said. Over 300 children have also been injured, many critically.

The population of Gaza is now confined to about a third of the territory, living in unsafe conditions amid rubble and waste. The health and sanitation systems are damaged, and many children suffer from malnutrition, disease, and lack of clean water.

Recent announcements outline a roadmap for the next phase of the ceasefire, including steps toward ending hostilities and increasing aid. Beigbeder said this offers 'new hope and a chance to finally stop children being killed.'

He added: 'Children in Gaza have heard promises before. This time, agreements must translate into action.' UNICEF is calling for all parties to comply with international law, especially on the protection of children and the provision of essential services.

The organization emphasizes the need to protect access to healthcare, education, safe water, and food for children in need. It also demands the unimpeded flow of aid to those who require it most.

UNICEF works in 190 countries and territories to protect children’s rights. Its mission is to help children survive, thrive, and reach their full potential. The agency maintains an active presence on social platforms including X, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.
