South Star Battery Metals has reached a key stage in its Santa Cruz project as a major customer has placed an order for 36 tonnes of graphite concentrate. The company announced that a buyer has verified the quality of its graphite through laboratory testing and has now agreed to purchase the product. This development marks a pivotal step toward commercial production for Vancouver-based South Star.
To finalize the buyer’s acceptance, the company sent three sample shipments in recent months. These occurred on June 1, July 14, and July 28 of this year, according to the company’s announcement. Each shipment included both flake and fines graphite samples, ensuring a full evaluation of the material’s characteristics and its ability to meet the customer’s quality standards. These samples were used for laboratory assessments to confirm compliance.
With the approval process now completed, the company is preparing the first large-scale delivery of 36 tonnes. The operations team is in the final stages of arranging the shipment, which is expected to leave this week. While the volume of this initial order is not large enough to significantly affect the company’s financial position, it is an important milestone that opens the door for future sales.
Growing Interest from Key Customer
The buyer has shown a clear interest in acquiring more graphite from the Santa Cruz mine in the coming months. South Star said that current conversations with the customer are promising, and the company expects to expand its sales volume as production continues to improve. This continued demand reflects the confidence that the market has in the quality of the company’s product.
He noted that the process of completing laboratory analysis and finalizing the pricing took longer than expected. However, the successful outcome shows a clear path forward for earning revenue from this major customer. Barcellos also praised the progress made in refining the operations at the Santa Cruz plant since resuming production.
As part of its growth strategy, South Star Battery Metals is focused on acquiring and developing battery and industrial metal projects across the Americas. The Santa Cruz graphite project represents the first of several initiatives the company plans to bring into production. The project is located in southern Bahia, Brazil, a region with over 80 years of continuous graphite mining activity and strong infrastructure.
Brazil is currently the second-largest producer of graphite in the world, and its well-developed logistics network supports efficient production and export. Santa Cruz is positioned to become a new and important source of graphite in the Americas.
