This remarkable score echoes the 62 he achieved at Worcester Country Club in 2022, a feat that also set a course record there. His consistency and skill continue to highlight his growing reputation as one of the top amateur golfers in the region.
A Legacy of Excellence
Quinn's latest performance at Wachusett is part of a long family tradition. His father, Fran Quinn, once set the course record at Worcester Country Club back in 1997, which Quinn later tied during his 2022 round. Ray Dennehy Jr., a golfer from Princeton, had also matched that same record earlier in 2022. On the same course, Fran Sr., Owen’s grandfather, set the competition course record with a 64. Meanwhile, Jay Dolan had long ago set the Wachusett course record with a stunning 59, but due to updates in the course layout, Quinn’s 62 at Wachusett has now officially become the new course record, according to Nick Marron, the club’s co-owner and director of golf.
Wachusett Country Club carries deep significance for Quinn. It was the place where he first learned to play the game and has since become a central location in his golfing journey. The club’s layout and history have been part of his life for years, and he has played more rounds there than at any other venue. His recent 62, which came in at 10 under par, marked a new personal best for him on the course, surpassing his previous score of a 64.
Quinn's performance was highlighted by his exceptional putting. On the par-5 second hole, he executed a 5-iron from 215 yards to within two feet, then sank the eagle putt. He followed this with a series of birdies on holes 3, 4, 5, 10, 14, 15, 16 and 18. His round closed with a 40-foot birdie putt, and he also rolled in several 10- and 8-foot putts. Notably, he managed to keep his round bogey-free, a rare and impressive achievement in competitive golf. His playing partners—Ryan Riley, Michael Riley, and Jeff Sbrogna—also played well, shooting rounds of 69, 72, and 72, respectively.
Quinn has already framed his 62 scorecard from his 2022 round at Worcester Country Club. He is contemplating doing the same for his recent Wachusett round, though it carries some marks from the quota match played during his round. Earlier in the summer, he shot a 7-under 65 at Fenner Hill Golf Club in Hope Valley, R.I., in the Rhode Island Open, tying the course record and finishing fourth. Despite five years of professional golf after graduating from Lehigh University, Quinn now plans to take a step back from the sport and pursue a career outside of golf starting this fall.
