Gridlife Summer Apex Returns to Watkins Glen International with Expansions
Gridlife Summer Apex is making a comeback at Watkins Glen International from July 24 through July 26, promising a more comprehensive experience than its 2023 debut. The 2023 event faced challenges due to continuous rain, which disrupted many planned activities. Organizers are now preparing for a fully realized version of the festival with expanded racing fields, major musical acts, and enhanced fan engagement opportunities.
Chris Stewart, president and co-founder of Gridlife, expressed excitement about the return to the iconic road course. He noted that when the event first came to Watkins Glen in 2023, the potential was clear, but the scale and depth of the experience were still in the early stages. 'Now, we're proving how far we've come,' Stewart said, highlighting the company's growth over the past three years.
A Fusion of Racing, Drifting, and Live Music
This year’s Gridlife Summer Apex will feature over 100 drivers competing in the Gridlife TrackBattle, a premier Time Attack championship. One of the standout vehicles in the competition will be Mike Dusold's 1,400-horsepower Chevrolet Camaro. Other notable entries include a hybrid Nissan 350Z and high-performance models from Chevrolet and Acura.
The Eibach Gridlife Touring Cup will expand to 40 competitors, while drifting will include nearly 40 drivers. T-Pain, known in the drifting world as Teddy Pain, Hert, Justin Pawlak, and Dai Yoshihara will headline the drifting action. Buffalo Bills offensive tackle Dion Dawkins is also set to appear, providing a unique crossover of sports and motorsports.
The musical lineup has also grown in prominence. DJ Diesel, a stage name for NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal, will perform during the BASSMiNT Takeover, a bass-heavy showcase on the second night of the event. Teddy Pain (T-Pain) will also take the stage, alongside performances from BUNT., Jai Wolf, San Holo, and Laszewo.
A Range of Experiences Beyond the Track
Gridlife Summer Apex offers more than just racing and music. Attendees can experience thrilling rides in high-powered vehicles, including manufacturer ride-alongs with Hyundai and Dodge. Hyundai’s IONIQ 5 N, Elantra N, and Elantra N TCR models will be featured, allowing fans to ride around the track in some of the latest performance vehicles.
Electric drift karts from Electro & Co. will add a unique twist to the event. The Prime Legends Preview will display rare and vintage cars, and the open paddock will give fans direct access to teams, drivers, and car builders. These hands-on elements ensure the event caters to fans of all interests.
Stewart emphasized that the festival doesn’t force fans to choose between different activities. 'You can watch high-speed racing in the afternoon, take a manufacturer ride-along, meet drivers in the paddock, and then enjoy top-tier music performances at night,' he said. 'The whole experience is designed to blend seamlessly.'
Watkins Glen's Legacy as a Premier Event Venue
Watkins Glen International has long been a hub for major events. The road course is famous for hosting the 1973 Summer Jam, which featured iconic acts like the Grateful Dead, The Band, and the Allman Brothers Band. The venue is now set to become the stage for another historic weekend, blending motorsports and live music.
Stewart said the goal of the event is to provide a well-rounded experience in one weekend. 'Whether you're here for the racing, drifting, or music, you usually leave with something you didn't expect,' he said. 'Watkins Glen is the perfect place to bring that vision to life.'
Gridlife Summer Apex will take place at Watkins Glen International, with all on-track sessions streaming live via the RACER Network and Gridlife’s YouTube channel. Information on tickets, camping, and event schedules is available at grid.life/summer-apex. The event is a collaborative effort involving journalists and AI technology, with every step of the creation process involving human input.
With its rich history and modern appeal, Watkins Glen International is ready to host a weekend filled with excitement, entertainment, and automotive culture. Gridlife Summer Apex promises an unforgettable blend of racing, music, and interactive experiences for all attendees.
