iOS 27 Lets You Set a Separate Alarm Volume

iPhone users can now set alarm volume without affecting ringer volume starting with iOS 27.

The essentials
  • iOS 27 allows you to adjust your alarm volume independently from your ringer volume.
  • The change is controlled via a new 'Match Ringtone Volume' toggle in Settings.
  • Alarms and timers will keep their own volume setting, even if the ringer is set to silent.
  • A second toggle lets alerts and system sounds have their own volume level too.

For years, iPhone users who wanted to keep their phone quiet at night also had to deal with a quiet alarm. iOS 27 changes that. Starting with this version, alarm volume no longer needs to match your ringer volume, giving you more control over how you wake up.

The feature is tucked under a new 'Alarms and Timers' section in the Sounds & Haptics settings. Turn off 'Match Ringtone Volume,' and a dedicated alarm slider appears. Set it to maximum or whatever you need to wake up, while keeping your ringer volume at zero. Sleep better, wake with purpose.

Alerts and system sounds also get a volume toggle

Below the alarms section, there’s a second toggle for alerts and system sounds—like keyboard clicks or incoming texts. Toggle that off and you can adjust those sounds separately. Want a loud ringer for calls but a muted keyboard for typing in the dark? You can have it.

iOS 27 is currently in public beta and will be available to most iPhone users in September. Until then, you’ll have to wait to untangle your alarm volume from the ringer once and for all.
