Iowa Speedway President Eric Peterson praised the track’s response from fans. He noted three consecutive sellouts since the Cup Series returned. “Moving to the Fourth of July weekend and competing on a brand-new racing surface is an exciting next chapter for our fans, our partners and the entire state of Iowa,” he said.
Chicagoland's uncertain future
Chicagoland Speedway had to allocate $4 million in 2026 for renovations, including SAFER barriers, grandstand updates, and parking facilities. Despite efforts, the track remains a long shot to return to the 2027 Cup Series schedule. With 22 of 38 dates still unannounced, other venues are stepping in, and the Chicago street race option might offer an alternative for the series.
While it's not yet confirmed, NASCAR still controls ownership of Chicagoland Speedway, and the track may have a shot at returning to the schedule. Until then, fans in Joliet are left waiting for a sign that their track is still in the mix.

Iowa Speedway, having sold out three straight Cup Series events, appears to be the better choice for NASCAR in the short term.
