Samsung is reportedly preparing a new pair of Galaxy Buds in a clip-on form factor, following a leak of illustrations from an unnamed Samsung app. The design suggests a standard open-ear air-conduction model, not the bone conduction technology some had speculated.
The buds, previously rumored to be called Galaxy Buds Able, are now believed to be named Galaxy Buds On, with 'Able' possibly serving as their codename. The illustrations confirm the clip-on design, matching many recent competitors, but differ in how they transmit sound. Samsung is also reportedly working on another new form factor for the Galaxy Buds line, with a hook design similar to other wireless options commonly used for workouts, and carrying the codename “Buds Canal 5.”
While bone conduction is still a faint possibility, the Buds On seem likely to follow the Open Wireless Stereo (OWS) approach, using traditional speakers rather than vibrating bones to deliver audio.
The Galaxy Buds On were not announced alongside the Galaxy Z Fold8, Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip8 in August. They may debut at Samsung’s next event, expected in early September, where the Galaxy S26 FE is also likely to be unveiled. It is unclear when the “Buds Canal 5” might be unveiled, but they could also be announced in the coming months.
Fan reactions online suggest a demand for integration—such as combining the Buds On with a 2-in-1 smartwatch. One commenter noted that Huawei’s 2-in-1 smartwatch uses in-ear buds, not open ear, but the desire for convenience remains clear.
Another user joked that the images looked like Samsung had announced wireless headphones, but the details suggest otherwise. The illustrations, while revealing, still leave the full specs and features unconfirmed until an official launch. Expected features include USB-C charging, water and dust resistance, and possibly active noise cancellation. If the “Buds Canal 5” are workout-focused, they could also feature a water- and dust-protection rating.
