Starting this summer, drivers in models from the XC40 to the EX90 will be able to access Apple Music directly through their infotainment systems. The update is being delivered over the air, and the automaker says most cars built from 2020 onwards will eventually receive it.

Volvo announced the rollout through a press release on its website, noting that the update’s availability will vary by model. The company is using this as an occasion to offer some free subscriptions: new Apple Music users get up to three months free, and lapsed subscribers get two.

What’s different for some models

Owners of the EX60, EX90, and ES90 will get an extra feature: Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos, but only if they have the optional Bowers & Wilkins sound system installed. These models represent the top of the line when it comes to audio quality, and the new support could make a real difference for those already paying more for a premium system.

The EX60, which just launched, will also come with Apple Music pre-installed on infotainment, no update required. But for most existing owners, the free trial period will last until July 6, 2027, after which the standard $11.99/month price kicks in.

Volvos are letting drivers test it for free longer than usual, but it’s still not free after the trial. That’s the catch — and the real cost, if you don’t already have a subscription.

“The timing of availability may vary depending on car model.”
