The essentials

Hayden Koo added Ohio State to his list of top schools this weekend. The four-star wide receiver, ranked 21st nationally at his position, is weighing options that include Michigan, Oregon, USC, and Washington. Koo, who hails from California and played for Tustin High, caught 796 yards and seven touchdowns in his sophomore season.

The Buckeyes' recent performance in developing top-level wide receivers is a major factor in Koo's interest. Former OSU stars like Chris Olave are setting new standards, with Olave recently signing a $132 million deal with the New Orleans Saints. Over the past two years, Ohio State has accounted for more than $527 million in contracts for its WR alumni.

Continuity at the position

Though Brian Hartline has moved on, Ohio State's WR production shows no signs of slowing. Current players like Jeremiah Smith and Chris Henry Jr. lead a strong roster. Transfer additions, including Kyle Parker and Devin McCuin, bring depth. Freshmen Brock Boyd and Jerquaden Guilford are also seen as potential contributors.

Five-star recruits Jamier Brown and Jett Harrison have committed for future classes, keeping the WR pipeline full. The program's ability to produce first-round talent has caught the attention of high school prospects. Koo mentioned the Buckeyes as his top three WRU, alongside LSU and USC.

The Buckeyes' recruiting momentum

Ohio State offered Koo a scholarship in June after he impressed at a summer camp. The offer came ahead of those from USC and Michigan. Koo acknowledged the significance of the opportunity. 'What they show in the draft, and the receivers they have,' he said, 'is huge.'

The 2028 recruiting class is shaping up well for the Buckeyes, with Harrison, Elijah Newman-Hall, and Jameer Whyce all already committed. Each is a top-80 national recruit. Their presence helps reinforce Ohio State's reputation as a wide receiver factory for years to come.
