The essentials
  • İbrahim Hüseyin Hasan 115 yıl hapis cezasına çarptırıldı ancak aynı anda 20 yıl hapis yatacak.
  • Mahkeme onu Al-Shabaab'a üye olmak ve terör amaçlı malzeme bulundurmak gibi suçlamalardan suçlu buldu.
  • Aşırılık yanlısı videoların bulunduğu bir Samsung telefonu davanın temel kanıtıydı.

Ibrahim Hussein Hassan faces a 115-year prison sentence for seven charges related to terrorism. The sentences will run at the same time, meaning he will spend 20 years in jail for one major crime. The court in Kahawa Law Courts ruled against Hassan after proving his guilt.

Hassan was convicted of being part of Al-Shabaab, an outlawed group in Kenya. The court also handed him 20 years on each of three charges for collecting information for terrorist acts. On each of three other charges for possessing terrorist-related materials, he received 15 years in prison.

The prosecution, led by Principal Prosecution Counsel Kennedy Amwayi and Harrison Kiarie, presented 10 witnesses. Hassan was arrested on September 6, 2022, in Eastleigh, Nairobi. Authorities found evidence that he was part of Al-Shabaab, which the Kenyan government declared a banned group in 2015.

A Samsung phone found on Hassan contained three videos that showed extremist propaganda. The court said these videos could be used to train and recruit young people into extremism. Magistrate Gideon Kiage concluded that Hassan’s case was proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

The court ordered Hassan to attend a deradicalisation programme while in prison. The long sentence reflects the seriousness with which Kenya treats terrorism. This case has been a key moment in the country’s fight against extremist groups.

“The prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.”
