The devices include chips that transmit data via GSM networks, allowing the company to track minutes of use and energy consumption. This capability counters previous criticisms that carbon credits were often awarded without sufficient proof of impact. Scalability Through Financial Innovation

BURN states that an efficient biomass stove, which typically retails for 40 US dollars, can be sold for as little as 5 dollars after carbon subsidies. More expensive induction units are often financed through pay-as-you-go plans, spreading payments over several months. Investors provide the upfront capital to lower the retail price and recoup their investment through the sale of verified carbon credits.
