Kenya’s election body plans to expand voting access for citizens abroad. The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission announced this on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, in New York.
Vice Chairperson Fahima Abdallah Arafat led the discussion. She explained the goal is to let Kenyans vote electronically without traveling home.
Expanding Physical Voting Access
Currently, voting happens only at Kenyan diplomatic missions. This limits access to specific locations. According to People Daily, the commission is widening this network.
The number of eligible countries will rise from 12 to 26. This change applies to the 2027 General Election. Commissioner Alutalala Mukhwana noted population size guides these choices.
Future Electronic Ballot Systems
