KIA Disrupts Junta Supply Lines in Kachin State

Forces from the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) have destroyed two vessels from a military junta reinforcement flotilla docked in Shwegu Town on September 9, according to KIA officials and local sources. This action continues a broader campaign targeting regime supply lines along the Ayeyarwady River, a critical artery for movement in northern Myanmar.

The attack targeted an advance group of nine vessels that arrived in Shwegu on September 8. The group comprised four riverine combat ships, four pusher tugboats, and an iron-clad barge. Local sources and initial photos indicate that two tugboats caught fire and were destroyed as they prepared to depart upstream toward Bhamo.

Logistics under sustained pressure

KIA spokesperson Col. Naw Bu stated that the group had traveled from Katha to Shwegu before the attack. He noted that details regarding casualties and destroyed cargo remain under verification. According to GN geopolitics/coup, this is the second major flotilla to face such disruption, following severe losses suffered by a previous 15-vessel convoy in late August, in which KIA forces destroyed eight ships.
