Russian drone strikes injure four in Kyiv gas station attack

Russian jet-powered drones struck Kyiv in the early hours of September 10, resulting in four injuries and significant damage to a gas station in the Holosiivskyi district. According to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, the impact ignited a fire that consumed one vehicle before emergency services contained the blaze. Three of the injured individuals required hospitalization, while a non-residential building in the same area sustained structural damage.

The incident forms part of a sustained campaign of aerial attacks on the Ukrainian capital. Local channels reported footage of the fire near the Respublika Park shopping mall, corroborating earlier reports of a drone falling in that vicinity. This strike follows a series of violent engagements over the previous 48 hours, during which Russian forces targeted residential areas and critical infrastructure across the city and surrounding oblasts.

Casualties extend to surrounding regions

The attacks were not confined to the city center. Authorities in the Kyiv Oblast reported that one person was killed in the Obukhiv district, while two others were injured in Obukhiv and the Fastiv district. In Bucha, private homes were damaged and fires broke out in open areas. Preliminary information from local officials indicates that a warehouse in Obukhiv also caught fire, and drone debris caused further damage to a veterinary clinic and a private residence in Fastiv.

Resumption of strikes after diplomatic pause

These strikes mark a rapid escalation following a brief cessation of hostilities. According to reports, the pause was linked to the visit of U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to the capital. The resumption of attacks has been intense; on September 9, drone strikes on residential buildings killed one person and injured at least 17, including two children. Prior to that, on September 8, a mass missile and drone offensive resulted in five deaths and 35 injuries, with large fires reported across multiple districts of the city.

Targeting fuel infrastructure disrupts logistics

The focus on gas stations suggests a strategic intent to disrupt fuel supplies and road logistics. As noted by the Kyiv Independent, Russia has previously employed this tactic in the Kharkiv, Sumy, and Zaporizhzhia oblasts. By August, this approach had expanded into central regions, with dozens of fueling stations struck over the summer. The recent damage to infrastructure in Kyiv indicates that this pressure on energy distribution networks is now a central component of the military campaign in the capital region.
