The strike in Odesa occurred shortly after another overnight attack in Zaporizhzhia resulted in the deaths of two individuals. According to the Kyiv Independent, this respite was short-lived, as Russian forces have continued to target cities across Ukraine. In the days preceding the Odesa attack, casualties mounted across the country. On September 11, at least nine people were killed and 145 others injured in widespread Russian attacks. Additionally, a strike on a shopping center in Pavlohrad, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, on September 10 left five people dead and at least 67 injured.
