UN Envoy Warns Yemen Conflict Enters Dangerous Phase
The UN Special Envoy warned the Security Council that Yemen has entered a dangerous phase of conflict as the 2022 truce collapses. New developments include Ansar Allah's capture of the key port of Mokha, which threatens the Bab al-Mandeb chokepoint, alongside a surge in civilian displacement and cross-border violence that has effectively ended four years of relative calm.
According to the latest UN briefing via GN geopolitics/un, Ansar Allah has seized control of the strategic port city of Mokha, placing forces within 75km of the Bab al-Mandeb strait and threatening global trade routes. The envoy also confirmed that over 11,400 households have been displaced since early September, with reports of civilian casualties in Taiz and Marib following cross-border attacks on Saudi infrastructure.
