India Issues First Tokenised Corporate Bond for 1000 Crore Rupees

The National Stock Exchange of India launched the country's first tokenised corporate bond program, raising 1000 crore rupees through two major issuers.
The National Stock Exchange of India raised 1000 crore rupees in its first tokenised corporate bond issuance. This event marks the start of digital asset trading on the NSE Electronic Bidding Platform.
REC Limited and Larsen & Toubro completed the combined raise. The Securities and Exchange Board of India approved the transaction under its Regulatory Sandbox Framework.
Regulators Unveil Digital Bond Initiative
Reserve Bank of India Governor Sanjay Malhotra announced the launch on September 10. SEBI Chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey joined the announcement at the Global Fintech Fest in Mumbai.
The initiative aims to enhance transparency in the securities market. It also targets improved operational efficiency through technology-driven solutions for bond trading.
Subscription Exceeds Base Issue Size
REC Limited set a base size of 100 crore rupees for its bond issuance. The subscription rate reached 7.9 times the base amount offered to investors.
The final allocation accepted 500 crore rupees in total funds. The coupon rate for the accepted bonds stood at 7.30 percent.
Market Focus On Digital Efficiency
NSE Executive Director Viral Mody stated that tokenisation supports atomic settlement processes. This approach is designed to reduce friction in capital market operations.
