Kazakhstan Secures Maximum JPMorgan Bond Weighting

Kazakhstan enters JPMorgan's GBI-EM Edge index with an 8% allocation. The move aims to boost foreign demand for tenge-denominated debt.
Kazakhstan has secured the maximum 8% country weighting in JPMorgan's new GBI-EM Edge index. The frontier-market index is scheduled to launch by the end of September. It will cover 26 countries and approximately $330 billion in eligible bonds.
Non-resident holdings of Kazakh government debt reached 2.5 trillion tenge by the end of June. This represents a value of 5.4 billion US dollars. Holdings increased by 28.3 percent since the start of the year. The maximum index allocation is expected to attract additional foreign capital to the local bond market.
Seoul Declaration Defines Thirty-Year Strategy
South Korea and five Central Asian nations adopted the Seoul Declaration at their inaugural summit. The document outlines a 30-year cooperation framework. Key areas include critical minerals, energy, and artificial intelligence. Kazakhstan agreed to host the next leaders-level meeting in Astana in 2028.
South Korean President Lee Jae Myung proposed expanding trade beyond traditional sectors. He called for developing critical-mineral value chains and digital transformation. The declaration establishes regular high-level talks to sustain this long-term agenda.
National Crypto Analytics Center Planned
Kazakhstan plans to establish a National Cryptocurrency Analytics Center. The facility will monitor digital asset transactions and strengthen market oversight. It will operate on the central bank's SupTech platform.
The system will analyze fiat payments, cryptocurrency transfers, and wallet data. Banks, law enforcement, and licensed digital asset providers will access verification tools. The center will integrate with the national Anti-Fraud Center. Authorities blocked over 1,100 unlicensed crypto exchange platforms in 2025.
Digital Payment Infrastructure Expands
VEON Digital Financial Group and Beeline Kazakhstan signed a five-year memorandum with the National Bank. The agreement focuses on exploring new digital payment services. It aims to connect private digital services with national payment infrastructure.
Kazakhstan is developing a national crypto reserve and testing regulated cryptocurrency payments. These initiatives accompany the broader digital transformation goals. The country continues to improve market access for foreign investors. A direct connection to Euroclear is planned for 2027.
