Korea’s KOFIA and Thailand’s ThaiBMA agreed to deepen over-the-counter bond market cooperation in Seoul. The meeting marked the first official stop for the Thai delegation in Korea. This visit aims to align regulatory standards between the two Asian markets.

Fourteen senior officials attended the session held in Yeouido on the 21st. The group included ThaiBMA President Prasan Trairatvorakul and representatives from major banks. Seoul Economic Daily reported that the delegation also included Ministry of Finance officials.

Shared Regulatory Frameworks Drive Dialogue

KOFIA detailed its experience operating the K-BOND trading system and bond yield calculations. Both organizations serve as self-regulatory bodies and market information centers. This structural similarity allows them to exchange specific operational know-how efficiently.

Chairman Hwang Sung-yeop noted that the two agencies share common goals in market transparency. He stated that the visit will expand working-level exchanges for bond market development. The focus remains on improving credibility and oversight in both jurisdictions.

Infrastructure Exchange Defines Next Steps

The discussions covered the provision of bond trading data and market surveillance. KOFIA shared how it manages domestic market infrastructure and self-regulatory functions. These systems are designed to enhance investor confidence and market liquidity in the OTC sector.

ThaiBMA operates as Thailand’s primary bond pricing agency and surveillance body. The meeting established a foundation for future technical cooperation. Both sides intend to replicate successful regulatory practices to strengthen their respective bond markets.
