SEBI and RBI Launch Demat 2.0 Pilot for Tokenised Bonds

SEBI and RBI have launched the Demat 2.0 pilot for tokenised corporate bonds, with REC Ltd leading the first phase. New official FAQs detail how the system will use existing demat accounts and CBDC wallets to enable faster, same-day settlements, having already processed over ₹1,000 crore in issuances.
SEBI has published official FAQs clarifying that the Demat 2.0 pilot extends existing investor accounts rather than creating new ones, while enabling same-day settlement for both issuance and secondary trades. The regulatory body also confirmed that the pilot has already facilitated three tokenised bond issuances totaling ₹1,025 crore, with retail access planned for a later stage, according to GN auto markets/bonds: corporate bonds.
