Shriram Finance is set to announce a $500 million bond buyback next week, targeting instruments maturing in 2027 and 2028.

Shriram Finance plans a $500 million bond buyback announcement as early as next week. The move utilizes free cash flows and lower borrowing costs. These conditions follow a recent credit rating upgrade. The upgrade resulted from a strategic investment by Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group. MUFG acquired a 20% stake in the Indian non-bank lender earlier this year.

The company intends to repurchase bonds maturing in April 2027 and April 2028. This action aims to reduce overall borrowing expenses. The tender offer will be priced at a slight premium to current market levels. This is the first such buyback since MUFG completed its stake acquisition.

Pricing and Yield Details

The 2027 bond has an outstanding balance of $750 million. The 2028 bond has an outstanding balance of $500 million. Both instruments currently trade near $101. The buyback price is expected to be $101.25. The 2027 bond yields 6.25%. The 2028 bond yields 6.12%.

Shriram Finance restricts the buyback size to $500 million. This limit ensures sufficient market demand for the offer. The company seeks to save at least 75 basis points in interest costs. Cheaper funding sources will replace the repurchased debt.

Rating Upgrade Impact

Fitch Ratings upgraded Shriram Finance’s long-term rating in April. The rating moved from BB+ to BBB-. The upgrade followed the completion of MUFG’s investment agreement. Fitch cited the strategic investment as a positive factor. The credit profile benefits from the stronger long-term shareholder.

MUFG purchased the 20% stake for 39,618 crore rupees. The deal closed in April 2026. This transaction provided the financial foundation for the current refinancing strategy. The company did not respond to requests for comment. GN auto markets/bonds: bond trading reports confirm the timing of the tender.
