Global gold jumps as dollar weakness offsets Fed rate hike risks

Spot gold climbed 36 USD to 4,390.9 USD per ounce. Traders now price in a 60% probability of a US Federal Reserve interest rate increase this month.
Spot gold prices increased by 36 USD per ounce to reach 4,390.9 USD. The rise occurred as the US dollar index fell. This weak currency made gold cheaper for holders of other fiat currencies.
Market participants are currently focused on upcoming US inflation data. CME FedWatch tools indicate a 60 percent chance of a rate hike at the September 15-16 meeting. Higher interest rates typically reduce the appeal of non-yielding assets like gold.
Domestic prices remain flat
Vietnamese gold prices held steady on September 10. SJC gold bars traded at 143.6 million VND for buying and 146.6 million VND for selling. This represents a spread of 3 million VND per tael.
PNJ quoted identical buy and sell prices across all regions. The buy price stood at 143.2 million VND and the sell price at 146.5 million VND. DOJI listed 9999 gold rings at 145.2 million VND for buying and 149.2 million VND for selling.
Yields and oil cap gains
Brent crude oil prices approached 100 USD per barrel. The yield on 10-year US Treasury bonds rose to 4.8 percent. These factors offset safe-haven demand driven by geopolitical tensions.
Gold rings in Vietnam often trade at a premium to bars. This gap widens when raw gold supply is limited. Processing costs and dealer margins also contribute to the higher price.
Market awaits inflation data
US producer and consumer price indices are scheduled for release this week. If indicators remain higher than expected, pressure on gold will likely increase. The market is watching for signs of further monetary tightening by the Fed.
