Drivers of the precious metal price

Gold serves as a safe-haven asset during economic turbulence. It often acts as a hedge against inflation and currency depreciation. The metal does not rely on any specific government issuer.

Central banks remain the largest holders of gold. They buy the metal to diversify reserves and support currency strength. Emerging economies in Asia and the Middle East have increased their holdings recently.

Correlation with dollar and risk assets

Gold prices typically move inversely to the US Dollar. A weakening dollar tends to push gold prices higher. A stronger dollar usually keeps the precious metal price controlled.

The metal also shows an inverse relationship with risk assets. Stock market rallies often weaken gold demand. Sell-offs in risky markets tend to favor the precious metal.
