The price of gold increased by 2.47 Saudi Riyals per gram on Friday, reaching a new local high.

Gold prices in Saudi Arabia rose to 526.83 Saudi Riyals per gram on Friday. This represents a daily gain of 2.47 SAR compared to the previous close. The metal also climbed to 6,144.61 SAR per tola. These figures reflect the latest market data for the Kingdom.

Data from GN auto markets/commodities confirms the upward movement in the local market. The troy ounce price stood at 16,386.83 SAR. A ten-gram bar was priced at 5,268.25 SAR. These rates are derived from international USD/SAR exchange rates. Local retail prices may vary slightly from these benchmarks.

Central banks drive global demand

Central banks remain the largest holders of gold reserves. They purchased 1,136 tonnes of the metal in 2022. This volume equals approximately 70 billion dollars. It marks the highest annual buying record on file. Emerging economies led this acquisition trend.

China, India, and Turkey increased their holdings significantly. These nations seek to diversify their currency reserves. High gold reserves support the perceived strength of an economy. This strategy provides a buffer against financial instability. It also serves as a hedge against currency depreciation.

Dollar strength impacts gold price

Gold prices typically move inversely to the US dollar. A weaker dollar tends to push gold prices higher. A stronger dollar usually keeps the metal price controlled. Gold is priced in dollars on international markets. This correlation influences local Saudi Riyal valuations directly.

Interest rates also affect the precious metal. Gold yields no interest, making it sensitive to rate changes. Higher interest rates usually weigh down gold prices. Lower rates tend to support the asset. Geopolitical instability can also trigger rapid price increases.
