Indian gold prices ticked higher on September 12, driven by geopolitical tension and US inflation data.

The price of 24 carat gold in India rose to 15,458 rupees per gram on September 12. This represents a 15 rupee increase from the previous day. 22 carat gold climbed to 14,170 rupees per gram. 18 carat gold reached 11,594 rupees per gram.

These figures apply to major cities including Chennai, Mumbai, and Delhi. Delhi recorded a slightly higher price of 15,473 rupees for 24 carat gold. The other listed cities maintained the baseline rate. These prices track international spot rates and local currency fluctuations.

Geopolitical Conflict Drives Safe Haven Demand

Gold traded near 4,330 dollars per ounce globally. This level reflects a small bounce after a 1.8 percent fall. The metal is heading for its third straight weekly loss. Investors are reacting to rising energy volatility in the region.

Iran-backed Houthi forces captured Yemen’s Red Sea coastline. Saudi Arabia shut down its East-West oil pipeline as a precaution. Brent crude prices pushed toward 108 dollars per barrel. These events increased demand for gold as a protective asset.

US Inflation Data Shaping Fed Expectations

US producer price data rose by 0.4 percent on September 10. This was the fastest increase since May. Markets are pricing in a 70 percent chance of a rate hike. The Federal Reserve meets on September 14 and 15.

Analysts note that inflation pressures remain sticky. The upcoming CPI data is the last major indicator before the decision. Higher interest rates typically reduce the appeal of non-yielding assets like gold. However, geopolitical risks currently offset this pressure.

Regional Price Variations Across Indian Cities

Prices vary slightly by location due to local taxes and transport costs. Chennai and Mumbai both list 24 carat gold at 15,458 rupees. Delhi is 15 rupees higher at 15,473 rupees. Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad, and Pune match the Chennai rate. Vadodara and Ahmedabad list 15,463 rupees per gram.
