US Wheat Prices Rise Amid Grain Sector Strength

Chicago wheat contracts gained 12.5 cents as the broader grain complex rallied on Thursday.
US wheat futures rose across all major exchanges on Thursday. The September 2026 Chicago Soft Red Winter contract closed at $7.23. This represents a gain of 12 cents. The December 2026 contract settled at $7.41, up 12.5 cents.
Gains were consistent across other markets. Kansas City Hard Red Winter futures increased by between 10.25 and 12.75 cents. Minneapolis spring wheat contracts posted the largest moves, rising between 12.5 and 15.75 cents. The September 2026 Minneapolis contract closed at $7.43.
USDA Data Awaits September Release
Market participants expect the USDA to hold US production estimates steady. The agency plans to wait for the Small Grains Summary due on September 30. Traders anticipate minimal changes to the balance sheet. A Bloomberg survey indicates an average forecast of 718 million bushels.
This figure is only one million bushels above the August estimate. Global wheat stocks are projected to decline by 0.3 million metric tons. The new level would stand at 273 million metric tons. According to GN markets/commodities (en-US), these figures align with current supply expectations.
Export Sales Data Delayed
USDA export sales data for the week ending September 3 will be released on Friday. The delay is due to the Monday holiday. Reuters surveys suggest sales between 250,000 and 500,000 metric tons. This range reflects typical weekly trading volumes.
Price Action Across Exchanges
Chicago SRW contracts posted gains of 5.75 to 12.50 cents. KC HRW futures saw higher trade of 10.25 to 12.75 cents. MPLS spring wheat closed 12.50 to 15.75 cents in the green. The broad rally indicates strong demand across the grain sector.
