Celo enables AI agents to settle transactions directly in Argentine pesos, Brazilian reais, and Colombian pesos. This removes the need for conversion into dollar-based stablecoins.

Celo has integrated local currency payment support for AI agents. The network now processes transactions in Argentine pesos, Brazilian reais, and Colombian pesos. This capability operates through the native x402 facilitator.

Agents on the network can now use specific wrapped assets for settlement. These include wARS, wBRL, and wCOP tokens. The update eliminates the requirement to convert local funds into dollar-pegged stablecoins before execution.

Reducing FX Exposure for Autonomous Transactions

The change targets foreign exchange volatility risks for users. AI agents can now operate in the same currency as their owners. This alignment simplifies the accounting for autonomous financial actions.

Businesses and developers gain a new billing mechanism. They can charge for services, data access, and API usage in local units. This expands the utility of the network beyond traditional dollar-denominated commerce.

Ripio Tokens Power the Local Currency Layer

Ripio issues the wFIAT tokens that facilitate these payments. The digital asset company backs these assets with specific fiat currencies. The current list includes the Argentine, Brazilian, Mexican, Colombian, and Chilean pesos, plus the Peruvian sol.

Network Scale and Future Currency Support

Celo currently supports 20 currencies across 33 stablecoins. The team announced plans to add support for wMXN, wCLP, and wPEN. These additions will cover Mexican, Chilean, and Peruvian markets respectively.

The network has processed more than 1.4 billion transactions since its 2020 mainnet launch. Activity is driven by payments, remittances, commerce, and DeFi applications. According to GN markets/fx (en-US), this infrastructure now supports agent-based economic activity.
