Ethereum Jumps 8% to $2,660

Ethereum outperformed Bitcoin, Solana, and XRP in a broad market rebound.
Ethereum rose more than 8% in the last 24 hours. The token crossed the $2,600 threshold for the first time since January. It reached a high of $2,660 on Coinbase. This move outpaced the gains of Bitcoin, Solana, and XRP.
Bitcoin increased by 2.7% over the same period. Solana gained 5.3% and XRP climbed 4.2%. Ethereum led the sector in price appreciation. The rally extended a sharp recovery from recent weakness.
Liquidations Hit $665 Million
The price surge triggered a wave of liquidations. Approximately $665 million in crypto positions were closed. This included roughly $400 million in short positions. Ethereum accounted for about $250 million of these liquidations.
Bitcoin represented about $170 million of the liquidations. Ethereum’s share was larger than Bitcoin’s. Market volatility increased as traders exited positions. The total loss across the market was substantial.
Inflation Data Missed Expectations
The rally occurred despite a hotter inflation reading. Core CPI rose 0.3% in August. This was above the 0.2% consensus estimate. Annual core CPI matched expectations at 2.4%.
Tom Lee of Fundstrat argued the Fed was overly hawkish. He predicted a strong rally despite the data. He believed sentiment was sufficiently bearish. A less concerning inflation reading could trigger a large move.
Analysts Predict Continued Strength
Michael van de Poppe stated the correction is over. He forecast that Bitcoin will set new highs. His view aligns with the current market rebound. He posted this assessment on X.
Bitmine Immersion Technologies stock rose more than 9%. It was a top trending ticker on Stocktwits. Retail sentiment remained in the bearish zone. The source GN markets/crypto (en-US) reported these figures.
