A 22-year-old Miami resident admitted to leading a global network that stole $245 million in digital assets.

Malone Lam pleaded guilty to a RICO conspiracy charge in a federal court. The admission confirms his role in a $245 million cryptocurrency theft scheme. Prosecutors describe the operation as an international cybercrime network. It targeted digital asset holders through deception and physical intrusion.

The conspiracy operated from October 2023 through May 2025. Members were located in California, Connecticut, New York, Florida, and overseas. Lam coordinated the group using aliases such as Anne Hathaway and King Greavy. He identified victims and assigned tasks to other conspirators.

Luxury spending fueled by stolen funds

The group converted stolen cryptocurrency into high-value goods. They purchased luxury watches worth over $500,000. Exotic cars valued up to $3.8 million were also acquired. Private jets and rental homes in Los Angeles, the Hamptons, and Miami completed the portfolio.

Nightclub expenses reached $500,000 in a single evening. The team retained private security guards for personal protection. This lifestyle was directly funded by the proceeds of the theft. Investigators tracked these transactions to build the case.

Federal agencies lead the investigation

The FBI and IRS Criminal Investigation jointly handled the probe. Federal investigators in Miami and Los Angeles provided support. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro stated that the network preyed on victims. The case highlights the scale of digital asset fraud.

Lam was arrested at his Miami rental home on September 18, 2025. He appeared in U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C. He pleaded guilty to one count of RICO conspiracy. Sentencing has not yet been scheduled.

Future legal proceedings set for 2026

Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly set a status hearing for December 8, 2026. Prosecutors intend to pursue other individuals in the network. The case remains under active federal investigation. Reporting by GN markets/crypto (en-US) confirms the legal timeline.
