US inflation held steady at 3.4% year-over-year in August, with monthly gains accelerating to 0.4% amid record-high diesel and surging gasoline costs. Core inflation remains relatively subdued at 2.4% annually as the Federal Readies for next week's rate decision.

  • According to GN markets/inflation (en-US), the monthly CPI acceleration to 0.4% was largely driven by a 3.9% spike in gasoline prices, which contributed more than one-third of the total increase. Meanwhile, core inflation, which excludes volatile food and energy costs, saw its annual rate ease slightly to 2.4%.
