Data from GasBuddy shows the city average is now 30.6 cents above last month. It is also $1.31 higher than the figure recorded one year ago. Drivers are paying significantly more for the same amount of fuel.
Local price range remains wide
Cheapest fuel in Baton Rouge cost $3.75 per gallon on Sunday. The most expensive station charged $4.65 per gallon. This creates a 90-cent difference between the lowest and highest local prices.
Across Louisiana, the average price stands at $3.98 per gallon. This is an 11.1-cent increase from last week. New Orleans drivers are paying an average of $3.96 per gallon.
National averages climb sharply
The national average gasoline price rose 18.5 cents to $4.44. This makes it 34.4 cents higher than one month ago. It is also $1.30 above the level from a year prior.
Diesel prices saw a steeper jump of 30.7 cents per gallon. The national average for diesel now stands at $6.49. This reflects broader supply chain pressures affecting heavier fuels.
Refinery issues drive the spike
GasBuddy analyst Patrick De Haan cites refinery issues as a key cause. Disruptions to global diesel supply are also contributing to the price hikes. These factors have pushed costs up in nearly every state.
Forty-five states recorded increases of more than 3 cents per gallon. The Great Lakes region led the surge with gains over 30 cents. Michigan, Indiana, and Illinois all saw significant price jumps.
