Diesel Reaches Record High of $6.39 per Gallon
National diesel costs have broken the previous all-time high, while regular gasoline prices continue their steady climb toward spring peaks.
The nationwide average price for diesel fuel reached a record high of $6.39 per gallon. This figure surpasses the previous peak of $5.82 recorded in June 2022. Data from GN auto markets/energy confirms this new milestone in fuel costs.
Regular gasoline prices also increased to $4.43 per gallon nationwide. This represents a rise of 37 cents from last month. Prices are more than one dollar higher than they were a year ago.
Regional pricing trends in Florida
In the Gainesville area, the average cost for a gallon of regular gas is $4.36. Florida statewide averages $4.29 per gallon. Diesel in the Gainesville area costs $6.41, slightly above the national average.
Florida ranks as the 21st-lowest price per gallon in the nation. Last month, the statewide average was $3.84. A year ago, the price stood at $3.19 per gallon.
Supply data and demand shifts
Crude oil averages $100 per barrel amid volatility in the Strait of Hormuz. Gasoline demand increased to 8.79 million barrels per day since September 10. Domestic gasoline supply rose to 207.7 million barrels.
Gasoline production increased from 9.3 million to 9.6 million barrels per day. The national average is approaching the record high of $4.56 set on May 21. The all-time high for regular gas remains $5.01 from June 14, 2022.
