National Diesel Average Hits 639 Cents per Gallon

US diesel fuel costs climbed to an average of $6.39 per gallon this week. Unleaded gasoline also rose to $4.43, marking a significant increase from last year.

The national average price for diesel fuel reached $6.39 per gallon on Thursday. This figure represents a 42 cent increase from the $5.97 average recorded a week earlier. The cost is also 95 cents higher than the $5.44 average seen one month ago. Compared to the $3.70 average from a year prior, the price has jumped by $2.69. These figures come from data reported by GN auto markets/energy: gasoline prices.

Unleaded gasoline prices followed a similar upward trend. The national average for a gallon of unleaded fuel stood at $4.43 on Thursday. This is up 16 cents from the $4.27 average recorded last week. The price is 37 cents higher than the $4.06 average from a month ago. Drivers are paying $1.23 more per gallon than the $3.20 average observed a year ago.

Kansas Fuel Costs Rise Sharply

Statewide averages in Kansas show a distinct pattern of rising costs. The average price for unleaded gasoline in the state was $4.06 per gallon on Thursday. This is 22 cents more than the $3.84 average from a week earlier. The price is 24 cents higher than the $3.82 average from last month. The annual increase stands at $1.17 per gallon compared to the $2.89 average from a year ago.

Diesel fuel in Kansas also recorded significant gains. The state average for diesel reached $6.09 per gallon on Thursday. This figure is 51 cents higher than the $5.58 average from the previous week. The cost is $1.03 more than the $5.06 average recorded a month ago. The year-over-year increase is $2.66 per gallon compared to the $3.43 average from last year.

Local Station Prices Vary Widely

Retail prices in Topeka show a wide range for consumers. Unleaded gas was available for between $3.72 and $4.21 per gallon at local stations. Diesel fuel prices in the capital city ranged from $5.55 to $6.64 per gallon. These local figures align with the broader national trend of increasing fuel costs. The data reflects current market conditions as the official start of fall approaches on September 22.
