South Korea's benchmark Kospi index rose 64.09 points on Monday. The gain pushed the total to 6,958.32 points by 09:15 local time.

Semiconductor manufacturers led the rally despite broader geopolitical tensions. Samsung Electronics shares jumped 3.26% while SK hynix added 0.22%.

Chipmakers drive the index higher

A 2.78% jump in the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index fueled optimism. This U.S. gain provided a positive signal for Korean tech stocks.

The Nasdaq index also rose 0.39% on Friday. The S&P 500 added 0.17% during the same trading session.

Oil prices weigh on sentiment

Brent crude remained near $104.68 per barrel. High commodity prices create inflation risks for the region.

Middle East tensions continue to weigh on investor confidence. These factors partially offset the gains in the technology sector.

Won weakens against the dollar
