Pune, India, will host the 2032 UCI Road World Championships. The UCI Management Committee made the decision alongside the 2034 award.
Pune, southwest of Mumbai, submitted a late bid. It competed against Groningen and the Drenthe region of the Netherlands.
Committee Splits Two Awards
UCI President David Lappartient called both bids very solid. He stated the committee found good solutions for both organizers.
Groningen and Drenthe won the 2034 Road and Para-cycling Championships. This decision follows the earlier award for 2032.
Late Bid From India
Pune hosted its first UCI stage race in January. The Bajaj Pune Grand Tour ran from January 19 to 23.
Cycling Federation of India secretary general Maninder Pal Singh said the bid formed in summer. This was well after the normal December 31 deadline.
Expanding Beyond Western Europe
Road Worlds have historically stayed in Western Europe. Canada held the first event outside Europe in 1974.
The USA hosted in 1986, and Japan in 1990. Asia waited until Doha, Qatar, in 2016 for the next chance.
Rwanda became the first African nation to host in 2025. Abu Dhabi has already secured the 2028 event.
