Fermin Aldeguer underwent surgery on Wednesday to remove a screw from his left leg. The Gresini MotoGP rider seeks to speed up his recovery before the Japanese Grand Prix.
The procedure followed a femur fracture suffered in early January at the Aspar Circuit in Valencia. He missed the season opener in Thailand due to the injury.
Outpatient procedure clears the way
Aldeguer worked with Dr. Ignacio Ginebreda to schedule the intervention. The doctor heads the bone reconstruction unit at Hospital Universitari Dexeus.
The surgery took place on an outpatient basis. Aldeguer left the medical center that same afternoon to rest at home.
He plans to travel to Japan next Monday. The goal is to return to full fitness for the upcoming race.
Metalwork stays until season end
A large nail still holds his femur together. This hardware cannot be removed until the end of the season.
Removing the nail requires weeks of inactivity and rehabilitation. Aldeguer will wait until after the Valencia Grand Prix.
He aims to undergo the second operation after the 2026 pre-season test on December 1. This timing minimizes his time away from the track.
Injuries shadow the racing year
The leg was not his only injury this season. A heavy crash at Assen in late June caused a cervical fracture.
