Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia volleyball team defeated the South Carolina Gamecocks in five sets on Wednesday. The match was the SEC opener at Stegeman Coliseum.
The set scores were 25-22, 19-25, 21-25, 25-17, and 15-10. Georgia climbs to a 9-2 season record and remains undefeated at home with a 6-0 mark.
Defensive Grit Stalls Gamecock Surge
South Carolina played tough, taking the second and third sets. The Bulldogs found their rhythm late. They hit .467 in the fourth set and .579 in the fifth to close out the match.
Sophomore setter Chloe Elarton recorded her second-straight double-double with 46 assists. She also posted a career-best 17 digs, leading the team in that category.
Senior Spark Ignites Final Sets
Senior outside hitter Bianna Muoneke tied her season-high with 27 kills. She finished with a season-best 30.5 points. Her .328 hitting clip and eight digs anchored the offense.
Muoneke credited her teammates for her performance. She wanted to stay resilient for the group. Graduate Kendal Kemp led all players with five blocks, helping Georgia reach 7.5 total blocks.
Razorbacks Arrive for Decades Night
Georgia hosts the Arkansas Razorbacks next Friday, Oct. 2, at 7 p.m. It is Decades Night at Stegeman. The first 500 fans receive a special edition t-shirt. Gates open at 6 p.m., and general admission is free.
Head Coach Tom Black praised the team's growth. He noted that every conference game is valuable. The squad will learn from this match and continue to improve.
