Panna Ratkai’s arm cracked the air, sending white fire across the net as the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa volleyball team dominated the OUTRIGGER Invitational.

Ratkai, a senior outside hitter, drove the Rainbow Wahine to a perfect 3-0 record during the OUTRIGGER Invitational held from September 3 to 6. Her physicality was relentless. She averaged a team-high 4.00 kills and 4.65 points per set, finishing with a .284 hitting percentage. The effort earned her the tournament’s Most Valuable Player title, a testament to her ability to control the tempo and finish attacks when the pressure peaked.
Five-Set Battle Defines Weekend
The most grueling moment arrived on September 4 against Loyola Marymount. The match stretched into a deciding fifth set, the air thick with tension and sweat. Ratkai stepped up to the line, her muscles coiled. She scored six of the Rainbow Wahine’s first eight points in that final set, including two consecutive aces that left the LMU defenders scrambling. Her arm moved like a piston, driving the ball down the line with precision. She finished the match with 21 kills on 54 attempts, a career high, and added ten digs to secure her second double-double of the season.
Consistency framed the rest of the tournament. On opening day, September 3, Ratkai recorded 12 kills in a sweep of Utah Tech. By the final match on September 6, she had found her rhythm again, posting 19 kills on 50 attempts and two aces in another five-set victory over UC San Diego. Each kill felt heavier, more deliberate, as she dismantled the opposing blocks one by one.
Homestand Continues Against Central Arkansas
The momentum carries into the next phase of the season. The Rainbow Wahine, now with a 4-2 record, prepare to face Central Arkansas in a two-match series. The games are scheduled for Thursday, September 10, and Friday, September 11, at Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center. The gymnasium will once again echo with the sharp crack of leather on skin, as Ratkai and her teammates seek to maintain their offensive edge.
