Tigers Secure Undefeated Weekend in Cleveland
Colorado College volleyball dominated the Case Western Reserve Quad, finishing 5-1 with two decisive victories and standout individual performances from senior leaders.
The air in the Cleveland arena hummed with the sharp thud of leather against skin. Colorado College volleyball moved with surgical precision, dismantling Hiram College in straight sets to open the Case Western Reserve Quad. The Tigers did not falter; they accelerated. Their 5-1 season record now stands as their best start since 2022, a testament to a weekend defined by relentless execution and physical dominance on the hardwood floor.
Senior Brooke Brilliant anchored the attack, her swings carving through the defensive line with 13 kills. Beside her, Julia Reusch and Camille Sherrill added fuel to the fire, contributing 11 and 10 kills respectively. Sophomore Delaney Dorscht moved with efficient grace, logging eight kills while committing only a single error. The defense held firm, with Meghan Gannon collecting 13 digs and Annie Joo orchestrating the offense with 30 assists and seven digs of her own.
Overcoming a Slow Start
The nightcap against Case Western Reserve began with a stumble. The Tigers dropped the first set 15-25, their rhythm disrupted by a sluggish start. But the momentum shifted violently in the second set. CC responded with a 25-15 rebound, snapping the hosts back to reality. The third set tightened into a 25-22 battle, before the Tigers closed the door with a 25-18 fourth set, sealing the 3-1 victory.
Brilliant led the charge again, her 15 kills punctuating the comeback. Dorscht matched Sherrill with a season-high 11 kills, while Grace Berry added seven. Joo’s control from the setter position was impeccable, racking up 45 assists and a match-high 14 digs. Gannon contributed 13 more digs, and Sherrill tied Tatum Hodges with four service aces, a display of pressure that kept the opponent off balance.
Discipline and Future Outlook
Interim head coach Nikki Binetti praised the team’s hard work and discipline, noting the value of facing diverse playing styles. The Tigers are eager to maintain this momentum as they prepare for the final non-conference weekend before conference play begins.
The road continues next weekend in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The Tigers will compete in the Calvin Invitational, starting Friday, Sept. 18. They face Cortland at 2 p.m. ET, followed by a match against Otterbein at 4:30 p.m. ET. The polished wood of the gym floor awaits another round of high-stakes rallies.
