Five Below Lifts 2026 Outlook on Strong Traffic

Five Below raised its fiscal 2026 guidance after Q2 earnings beat expectations, driven by sustained customer traffic and improved margins.
Five Below, Inc. (FIVE) elevated its fiscal 2026 financial outlook following a second quarter that outperformed market expectations. The company reported adjusted earnings per share of $1.68, significantly exceeding the consensus estimate of $1.34. Net sales climbed 22.9% year over year to $1.26 billion, surpassing the projected $1.192 billion. This performance marks the fifth consecutive quarter of double-digit comparable sales growth, which increased 14.1% in the period.
Management attributes the stronger operating base to broad gains across customer segments, geographies, and product categories. According to data from GN markets/earnings (en-US), the revision of full-year targets reflects a confident stance on sustained demand. The company now expects continued transaction growth to drive demand improvement, supported by merchandise-margin gains and disciplined inventory management as it approaches the holiday season.
Revised Full-Year Financial Targets
Five Below increased its fiscal 2026 net sales guidance to a range of $5.63 billion to $5.71 billion, up from the previous estimate of $5.40 billion to $5.48 billion. The company also raised its expected comparable sales growth to 10% to 12%, compared to the prior forecast of 6% to 8%. These adjustments indicate a more aggressive growth trajectory for the coming year.
Profitability expectations have also been strengthened. Adjusted earnings per share guidance now stands at $9.83 to $10.31, a significant increase from the earlier range of $8.65 to $9.05. At the midpoint, the adjusted operating margin is projected to rise approximately 250 basis points year over year to roughly 12.5%. This signals a notable improvement in full-year profitability driven by operational efficiencies and volume growth.
Drivers Behind Margin Expansion
Customer traffic remains the primary engine for sales, with transactions increasing 13.6% in the second quarter. Average transaction value rose modestly by 0.4%, confirming that frequency of visits is the key metric. The raised outlook also incorporates benefits from lower tariff costs and fixed-cost leverage. However, Five Below notes that it plans to increase marketing investment, meaning the profit improvement is not solely derived from expense restraint.
Merchandise strategy plays a critical role in this expansion. The company is leveraging a fuller assortment for Halloween and the holiday season, including items previously excluded due to tariff constraints. Early results from the "Five Beyond" store reconfiguration have generated positive responses regarding customer engagement and productivity. These factors, combined with faster speed to market for trend-driven products, support the company's ability to maintain repeat visits and engagement levels.
Inventory Levels and Risk Factors
Despite the positive outlook, execution risks remain. Inventory levels ended the second quarter at $941.2 million, a 17.7% increase year over year. The company expects higher outbound transportation fuel costs and a tougher shrink comparison to offset some of the gross-margin benefits from lower tariffs in the third quarter. The guidance assumes current tariff rates remain stable, making cost volatility a potential headwind.
Competition in the value retail sector continues to intensify. Peer companies such as Dollar General and Dollar Tree have also reported positive comparable sales growth, indicating a broader trend of traffic recovery in the segment. Five Below must sustain its traffic gains and manage inventory turns effectively to meet the higher targets. The company’s ability to navigate these operational challenges will determine whether the revised outlook translates into sustained shareholder value.
