Hero Motors closed its Rs 1,000 crore initial public offering with a 6.66x subscription, driven by strong retail demand and anchor commitments.

Hero Motors concluded its initial public offering with a 6.66 times subscription, raising Rs 1,000 crore for the powertrain specialist. The company sold 88.6 million shares at a price band of Rs 79 to 84 per equity unit, according to data reported by GN stocks/ipo. This mainboard listing combines a fresh issuance of up to Rs 600 crore with an offer-for-sale of up to Rs 400 crore, marking a significant capital raise for the automotive technology firm.

Investor appetite was strongest among non-institutional and retail segments, which booked their quotas 9.86 and 8.23 times, respectively. Qualified Institutional Buyers subscribed to their portion 1.49 times. Prior to the public bidding, Hero Motors secured nearly Rs 300 crore from anchor investors, providing a stable base for the issue before the general public participated.

Capital Allocation Strategy

The company has mapped specific uses for the fresh proceeds to optimize its balance sheet and operational footprint. Rs 190 crore is designated for the repayment or prepayment of outstanding borrowings, reducing interest burdens. Another Rs 200 crore will fund equipment purchases to expand manufacturing capacity at the facility in Gautam Buddha Nagar, Uttar Pradesh.

The remaining funds are earmarked for inorganic growth through unidentified acquisitions and general corporate purposes. This financial structure allows Hero Motors to pursue strategic initiatives while strengthening its operational infrastructure. The company will list on the stock exchange on September 23, enabling public trading of its shares.

Global Powertrain Supply

Hero Motors designs and manufactures engineered powertrain solutions for automotive original equipment manufacturers in the US, Europe, India, and the ASEAN region. Its client base includes prominent global brands such as BMW AG, Ducati Motor Holding SPA, and Enviolo International Inc. This diverse geographic and sectoral exposure underpins the company's revenue model and supports its expansion plans.

Market Interest Dynamics

The disparity in subscription across investor categories highlights the strong retail confidence in the company's prospectus. Non-institutional investors, often comprising high-net-worth individuals and small entities, showed the highest demand at 9.86 times. The QIB segment, while less oversubscribed, still provided sufficient institutional coverage to ensure the issue's completion.

The successful closure of the IPO positions Hero Motors to execute its growth roadmap with reduced leverage. By combining debt repayment with capacity expansion, the company aims to enhance its competitive standing in the global powertrain market. The upcoming listing will provide liquidity for existing and new shareholders.
