Ola Electric Shares Jump 7% on Dealer Network Expansion

Ola Electric shares climbed 7% as the company expanded its dealer-led network across seven states, following a quarter of reduced losses but lower revenue.
Ola Electric shares rose 7% in trading, reversing a three-day decline of over 2% reported by NSE data. The session saw 6.87 crore shares change hands with a traded value of Rs 270 crore. This movement coincided with the company’s announcement that its first batch of dealer-led stores had gone live, marking a significant step in its distribution strategy after opening its sales and service network to partners just a month prior.
The new partner-operated outlets are now operational across Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Bihar, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh. These stores are designed to strengthen the company's presence in key regional markets, directly addressing local demand for its electric scooters and motorcycles. The expansion aims to broaden reach beyond the direct sales model, leveraging local dealer networks to capture volume in these states.
Q1 FY27 Results Show Loss Reduction
Ola Electric reported a contraction in net losses to Rs 336 crore for the April-June quarter of FY27, down from Rs 428 crore in the same period last year. Despite this improvement, revenue from operations fell 45% year-on-year to Rs 455 crore, compared to Rs 828 crore in the prior year. However, revenue surged 72% sequentially from Rs 265 crore in Q4 FY26, indicating a short-term recovery in top-line performance.
The company attributed the improved loss position to its FY26 reset, which involved streamlining operations and lowering the operating cost base. Orders increased to 44,071 units from 22,522 units in the previous quarter, while deliveries rose to 39,192 units from 20,256 units. This sequential growth in orders and deliveries suggests a stabilizing trend in unit volume following the operational adjustments.
Brokerage Views Cite Volume and Cash Concerns
Kotak Institutional Equities maintained a 'Sell' rating with a target price of Rs 20, citing the company's volume scale as a critical hurdle. The brokerage noted that if the current volume trajectory does not improve, Ola Electric will likely need to raise additional capital. Similarly, Citi maintained a 'Sell' call with a target of Rs 26, pointing to weaker volumes and lower gross margins, although these were partially offset by cost control and the reversal of PLI penalties.
Goldman Sachs holds a 'Neutral' rating with a target price of Rs 40, noting that cash burn remains a primary concern. The firm highlighted a free cash flow outflow of negative Rs 3.5 billion and the absence of material cell revenue expected in Q2. These factors underscore the ongoing financial pressure on the company despite the recent operational improvements and network expansion.
Market Reaction Reflects Strategic Shift
The stock's sharp uptick, as reported by GN stocks/shares-surge, reflects investor reaction to the tangible progress in distribution. While the Q1 results showed a reduction in losses, the underlying challenge of scaling volume remains central to the narrative. The move from direct sales to a partner-led model is seen as a necessary adjustment to reach broader markets, though its long-term impact on margins and cash flow will require further observation.
