Corinth Pipeworks Secures 218-Km DESFA Pipeline Contract

Corinth Pipeworks has been awarded a significant manufacturing contract by DESFA to supply steel linepipe for a new high-pressure branch in northern Greece, marking a major expansion in the company's infrastructure portfolio.
Corinth Pipeworks, the steel pipe division of CNOPS, has finalized a contract with the Hellenic Gas Transmission System Operator, DESFA, to manufacture and supply steel pipes for the Duplication of Karperi–Komotini High-Pressure Branch. The agreement involves the production of over 200 kilometers of 30-inch Helical Submerged Arc Welded linepipe, which will be fabricated at the company’s industrial facilities in Thisvi, Greece. This deal represents a substantial addition to the company’s order book and reinforces its position in the European energy infrastructure sector.
The project aims to create a parallel high-pressure network that will enhance the capacity and resilience of the Greek National Natural Gas Transmission System. By duplicating this specific branch, the infrastructure is designed to eliminate existing capacity bottlenecks in northern Greece. The supplied pipes will feature a three-layer polyethylene anti-corrosion exterior coating and an internal epoxy lining to ensure long-term durability and efficient flow, meeting the rigorous technical standards required for high-pressure gas transmission.
Hydrogen-Ready Design Supports Energy Transition
A key technical specification of the 218.5-kilometer network is its hydrogen-ready capability. The infrastructure is engineered to transport up to 100% pure hydrogen, aligning with Greek and European Union initiatives to accelerate the shift toward low-carbon energy sources. This future-proofing allows the pipeline to serve dual purposes, supporting both traditional natural gas distribution and emerging clean energy applications. For Corinth Pipeworks, this contract validates its ability to produce advanced pipeline solutions tailored for next-generation energy markets.
Strategic Role in Regional Energy Security
Beyond domestic supply improvements, the project serves a broader strategic function for Southeast Europe. The expanded network strengthens regional energy security and accommodates rising power demands. Crucially, it expands cross-border capacity to support gas exports through the Interconnector Greece–Bulgaria pipeline. This dual focus on domestic resilience and regional connectivity underscores the project's importance in the broader European energy map, providing a stable conduit for gas flows from western sources to eastern markets.
Company Expands International Infrastructure Footprint
Corinth Pipeworks continues to expand its footprint in international infrastructure development through this engagement with DESFA. The company specializes in advanced pipeline solutions for emerging energy markets, offering products engineered for traditional natural gas transport as well as clean energy applications, including pure hydrogen and carbon capture initiatives. The execution of this contract demonstrates the company’s capacity to handle large-scale, technically complex manufacturing requirements while maintaining high quality standards for critical national infrastructure.
