Global renewable power capacity reached 5149 gigawatts in 2025, marking a 15.5% annual increase. This expansion is driven by rising electricity demand from artificial intelligence infrastructure and electric vehicles, alongside worsening climate impacts that intensify seasonal load on grids.

The low levelized cost of energy for solar and wind provides a cost-effective baseline for meeting this structural load. As data center power consumption is projected to nearly double by 2030, renewables remain the primary scalable solution for supplying continuous baseload electricity.

AI and EVs Drive Structural Load

Four major technology companies accounted for 49% of global corporate clean energy Power Purchase Agreements signed, per BloombergNEF. These agreements secure long-term baseload power for data centers running large language models, creating a massive, continuous demand source for renewable generation.

Simultaneously, the rapid adoption of electric vehicles adds long-term structural load to global power networks. This dual demand from heavy tech and transportation accelerates the operational shift toward low-cost, zero-carbon electricity generation to manage unprecedented seasonal pressure.

Battery Storage Becomes Core Catalyst

Battery energy storage systems are essential for maintaining 24/7 grid stability by storing excess power and releasing it during peak hours. This capability turns variable clean energy into a reliable baseload supply, shielding networks from overloads and blackouts.

Plummeting battery costs make renewable-plus-storage setups more cost-effective than fossil fuel plants. Annual global battery storage investment is expected to exceed $100 billion this year, establishing storage as the core catalyst of the global clean energy rollout.

Clean Energy Stocks Benefit From Growth

Bloom Energy and Vestas Wind Systems are positioned to capture benefits from this booming renewable energy and storage space. Generac Holdings also supports the sector as an energy technology enabler, providing critical infrastructure for the expanding clean energy grid.
