Nasdaq Short Interest Rises to 22.6 Billion Shares in August

Nasdaq's total open short interest reached 22.6 billion shares by the end of August, with the average days to cover extending to 2.86. The increase is largely attributed to the Global Market segment, which saw a notable surge in short positions compared to the relatively stable Capital Market.
According to the official release from GN stocks/nasdaq, the rise in short selling is driven primarily by the Nasdaq Global Market, where days to cover jumped to 3.52, while the Capital Market saw a slight decrease in share count despite its own days to cover increasing to 1.61.
