SEI Investments reports Q2 revenue growth of 15% but sees GAAP earnings per share fall 11% due to increased operational spending.

Key points

  • SEI Q2 revenue grew 15% to $641.6 million, but GAAP diluted EPS fell 11% to $1.59 due to higher operational costs.
  • Operating income increased 33% to $197.0 million, with the Investment Managers segment driving 17% revenue growth.
  • SEI partnered with Zocks to integrate AI-driven automation for advisor tasks like meeting prep and CRM updates.
SEIC

SEI Investments reported second-quarter revenue of $641.6 million, a 15% year-over-year increase, while GAAP diluted earnings per share declined 11% to $1.59. The divergence between top-line growth and bottom-line profit reflects higher spending on sales and leadership roles, which pressured net income to $195.7 million, down 14% from the prior year.

The company simultaneously announced a partnership with Zocks, an AI assistant designed for financial advisors. This addition to its advisor services ecosystem aims to automate time-intensive tasks such as meeting preparation, note-taking, and client onboarding, reinforcing SEI’s strategy of providing integrated workflow tools for wealth management firms.

Q2 Financial Performance Details

Operating income rose 33% to $197.0 million, expanding the operating margin to 31% from 27% in the same quarter last year. Adjusted diluted EPS increased 38% to $1.66, aided by a 3% reduction in share count from buybacks, including the repurchase of 1.3 million shares for $112.4 million during the quarter.

The Investment Managers segment, SEI’s largest division, drove growth with revenue up 17% and operating profit up 25%. Private Banks also saw strong results, with operating profit jumping 39% on continued conversions to the SEI Wealth Platform, although the Institutional Investors segment saw operating profit slip 2% as revenue remained essentially flat.

Strategic AI Integration

SEI positioned the Zocks partnership as a move to embed AI into daily advisor workflows rather than treating it as a standalone novelty. The platform handles CRM updates and client intelligence tasks, allowing firms to reduce reliance on junior staff for administrative duties. The company plans to support this rollout with educational programming and webinars to build advisor confidence in using the tool.

Operational Cost Pressures

The gap between adjusted and GAAP earnings highlights the cost of maintaining growth. Institutional Investors segment profit dipped slightly due to ongoing investments in sales and leadership hires, indicating that SEI is prioritizing long-term market share over short-term margin preservation. This spending strategy explains why net income declined despite robust revenue expansion across the company's core segments.
