Three Banks Benefit from Higher Yields

Mid Penn, Avidbank, and Coastal Financial leverage deposit-heavy models to capture net interest income as inflation persists.
Persistent inflation at 3.4% year-over-year and rising fuel costs have shifted investor focus toward short-duration cash platforms. This environment favors institutions with business models deeply tied to interest-bearing deposits and sweep services. Three U.S. banks—Mid Penn Bancorp, Avidbank Holdings, and Coastal Financial—exhibit structural advantages in this high-rate regime, according to analysis by GN stocks/banks.
These companies generate significant revenue from cash management and brokerage sweep programs, allowing them to benefit directly from higher policy rates. Unlike traditional lenders facing credit risk, these firms convert stable deposit balances into net interest income. Their market capitalizations range from $347 million to $938 million, reflecting smaller-cap opportunities within the broader banking sector.
Mid Penn Bancorp's Deposit Engine
Mid Penn Bancorp operates a community bank model centered on insured cash sweep services. The company generates approximately $263 million in banking and financial services revenue. Its earnings are closely linked to interest-bearing deposits that respond to rate movements. As long as policy settings remain elevated, these short-term cash pools support net interest income, providing a steady revenue stream for the firm.
Avidbank's Asset Allocation Strategy
Avidbank Holdings blends operating accounts and treasury services with niche lending. The company reported $38 million in U.S. banking revenue and a market cap near $347 million. Management reinvested $163 million into mortgage-backed CMOs at an average yield of 4.54%. The plan is to maintain the securities portfolio at 10% to 15% of earning assets, directing balance sheet resources toward higher-yielding instruments and loans.
Coastal Financial's Digital Platform
Coastal Financial combines a traditional Puget Sound community bank with a Banking-as-a-Service platform. The CCBX segment drives $248 million in revenue, significantly outpacing the $96 million from its Community Bank division. The company leverages embedded financial services and deposit sweep programs to influence fee-based revenue. This model turns day-to-day balances into a core earnings engine when policy rates remain high.
