DaVita Inc. reported steady treatment volumes and expanded risk-based patient enrollment in the second quarter of 2026, reinforcing its shift toward earlier-stage kidney care while maintaining a hold recommendation from GN stocks/earnings-beat.

DaVita Inc. delivered stable operational results in the second quarter of 2026, reporting 7.23 million dialysis treatments in the U.S. with revenue per treatment of $415.9. The company maintained its position as a major kidney care provider, with a market capitalization of $11.74 billion, and projected 26.5% growth over the next five years. According to GN stocks/earnings-beat, the stock has rallied 58.5% year to date, significantly outperforming the industry average of 22% and the S&P 500 gain of 11.6%, despite a Zacks Rank #3 Hold rating.

The firm’s Integrated Kidney Care platform expanded its risk-based patient count to 64,900 in the second quarter of 2026, up from 62,600 in the first quarter. This growth represents approximately $5.8 billion in annualized medical spend under management. DaVita also secured a new value-based agreement with Humana covering more than 10,000 Medicare Advantage members with chronic kidney disease stages 3B to 5, aiming to delay dialysis initiation and reduce hospitalizations through earlier intervention.

Core Dialysis Operations Remain Stable

Management expects 2026 treatment growth to reach the top end of its prior guidance, supported partly by improving mortality trends. The company is prioritizing home hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis to enhance patient retention and capture a larger share of the kidney-care continuum. To support this strategy, DaVita made a minority investment in Elara Caring in early 2026, designed to expand home-based support for end-stage kidney disease patients and potentially reduce missed treatments and associated hospital costs.

Clinical Innovation Drives Early Intervention

DaVita’s MODEL and MEMOIRS initiatives are currently evaluating advanced dialyzer technologies to assess their impact on survival and patient-reported outcomes. These efforts complement the Humana partnership, which leverages a network of approximately 3,000 value-based nephrologist partners to provide coordinated care. The model addresses kidney, cardiovascular, and metabolic health while offering education and treatment planning, aiming to reduce costly complications and strengthen the company’s position in value-based contracting.

Competitive and Regulatory Pressures Persist

Despite operational strengths, DaVita faces intense competition from large providers such as Fresenius Medical Care, private equity-backed firms, and new market entrants. This competition extends into integrated kidney care and transplant services, where well-capitalized healthcare companies are introducing new care-delivery models. These pressures may make it more difficult for DaVita to secure attractive acquisitions and maintain patient volumes, while commercial payer-mix pressures and regulatory uncertainty remain key concerns for future performance.
