Olema Pharmaceuticals reported a Q2 loss of $0.61 per share, missing analyst consensus. Despite a 3.5% intraday gain, trading volume dropped 92%, and major banks cut price targets.

Olema Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:OLMA) closed Thursday at $10.73 after a 3.5% intraday gain, though trading volume collapsed to 104,214 shares, a 92% decline from the daily average of 1.37 million. The stock remains below its 50-day moving average of $11.33 and significantly under the 200-day average of $13.60. According to GN stocks/nasdaq data, the company’s market capitalization stands at $949.72 million with a beta of 1.98, indicating high volatility relative to the broader market.

The share price movement follows the release of second-quarter financial results on August 10. Olema reported a loss per share of $0.61, missing the consensus estimate of $0.55 by six cents. For the current fiscal year, sell-side analysts project a continued loss of $2.43 per share. The company’s negative P/E ratio of -5.12 reflects these ongoing operational deficits, while a quick ratio of 8.86 suggests ample short-term liquidity to cover obligations without relying on inventory or asset liquidation.

Analysts Lower Valuation Targets

Recent research notes indicate a broad reduction in valuation expectations among major institutional investors. HC Wainwright cut its price objective from $38.00 to $36.00 while maintaining a Buy rating. JPMorgan Chase lowered its target from $52.00 to $46.00 with an Overweight stance. Citigroup reduced its target to $59.00, and Guggenheim decreased its objective to $35.00. These adjustments contribute to a consensus average target price of $42.40, which remains well above the current trading level but reflects a downward revision from previous estimates.

Insider Sales Reduce Holdings

Director Cyrus Harmon sold 12,500 shares on July 23 at an average price of $11.58, realizing a total of $144,750. This transaction reduced Harmon’s direct ownership by 1.72% to 715,270 shares, valued at approximately $8.28 million. The sale was disclosed in an SEC filing. Overall, company insiders retain a 12.56% stake in the equity, suggesting that while individual positions are being adjusted, internal ownership remains a significant component of the shareholder base.

Institutional Positions Increase

Despite the earnings miss, several institutional investors expanded their exposure to the stock during the first and second quarters. Goldman Sachs Group Inc. increased its stake by 93.6%, adding 358,412 shares to reach a total position of 741,329 shares worth $2.79 million. Jane Street Group LLC boosted its holdings by 216.8%, acquiring 94,815 additional shares for a total of 138,552. Geode Capital Management raised its position by 22.4% to 1,326,123 shares, valued at $5.65 million. AQR Capital Management also initiated a new position valued at approximately $172,000, indicating continued institutional interest in the company’s long-term value proposition.
