FTAI Aviation shares rose 6% after the board approved a $500 million repurchase program, signaling balance sheet strength despite a 40% discount from its 52-week high.

Shares of FTAI Aviation (NASDAQ:FTAI) climbed 6% in early trading following the company’s announcement of a new capital return initiative. The board of directors authorized a share repurchase program covering up to $500 million of outstanding ordinary shares. According to reporting by GN stocks/nasdaq, the move reflects management’s confidence in the firm’s liquidity position and its assessment of the current equity valuation.

The repurchase plan is scheduled to remain active until the earlier of its full execution or September 30, 2029. FTAI stated it intends to fund these purchases using cash already held on its balance sheet. The company may execute trades on the open market, through privately negotiated transactions, or via block trades, including under Rule 10b5-1 plans.

Board Approves Capital Return Plan

The authorization allows the company to reduce the number of shares in circulation if management believes the stock is undervalued. This strategy returns capital to shareholders without establishing a fixed dividend obligation. The program does not mandate the purchase of any specific number of shares, and FTAI reserves the right to suspend, modify, or discontinue the plan at any time based on market conditions.

Stock Trades Below Peak Valuation

Despite the positive reception to the buyback news, FTAI Aviation shares are trading at $186.04, which is 40% below the 52-week high of $310.04 reached in February 2026. The stock is down 11.6% year-to-date. Long-term holders have seen significant growth, with a $1,000 investment from five years ago now valued at approximately $7,374.

Market Volatility Remains High

The equity has exhibited extreme volatility, recording 49 price moves greater than 5% over the past year. The current 6% jump follows a 6.8% decline 29 days ago, triggered by weaker-than-expected U.S. industrial production data. While the buyback provides potential price support, actual execution depends on discretionary management decisions regarding market timing and price levels.
